The Letter
Happy new year to you wherever you are! (Ok, it’s quite far into the month already but we’ll allow it). Hopefully 2022 will bring you all health, happiness and prosperity wherever you are in the world. We’re excited to find and deliver another year’s worth of new, obscure and eclectic music for you!
A really lovely selection here to start off the year.
Our album is ‘In Waves,’ the debut album by Anna Nokomis, a really talented singer/songwriter. We were actually hoping to get this for you in October/November time last year, but things got delayed by Covid and other complications. A stark and unflinching take on her own life, ‘In Waves’ is an undeniably personal record - Anna’s haunting voice set against a sonic landscape of moody guitars, dark pianos and brooding saxophone. If you like a bit of Mazzy Star, Nick Cave or Lana Del Rey, you will find a lot to love here.
Our 12” this month is a cheering, uplifting slice of disco house. “Moody Disco Vol. 1” is a multi tracker by Los Angeles disco/funk maestro, LUXXURY aka Blake Robin exploring new disco directions. This one has some really strong ‘70s and ‘80s vibes. When we first heard this, it just screamed to us of a road trip down the Pacific Coast Highway, so crank it up in your lounge or car while we wait for the summer to arrive! Enjoy.
