As a bit of a yearly tradition, we’re opening the year without a guest selector and Josh and Luke are choosing both records this month, which we hope will mean that they are guaranteed bangers. First up is Luke’s choice:
Faulty Inner Dialogue is by Kid Canaveral is easily in my top ten records of 2016. For some unknown reason Kid Canaveral have been perrenial underdogs, never really breaking out of their home region of Glasgow. With their latest album, they’ve really grown up musically, shedding the indie-pop kiddiness of their previous efforts, mixing in quite a lot of electronic influence and producing something that is quite epic at times. Gun Fhaireachdain and First We Take Dumbarton are two of the strongest album openers I’ve heard in a long time.
Next up is Josh’s pick:
I have been waiting to send you all a Rhythm Section International record pretty much since we launched. Finally it has timed well! RSI are one of the best record labels around at the moment, and Dan Kye’s Change is a particular highlight. Neo-soul inspired house music. Play on repeat like I have been.
