The Letter
To be honest, the last few months have been light on listening because I’ve been hitting this record so damn hard since the good folks at Fika sent through the masters… The Little Hands of Asphalt is the moniker of Sjur Lyseid, an Oslo-based singer-songwriter and producer, who you may know from his ridiculously talented Christmas supergroup Sunturns. If you’ve ever wondered what Bon Iver covering Bright Eyes and Death Cab for Cutie might sound like, this is pretty close. His gorgeous, warm tones flow over a beautiful folk-indie sound and navigate some seriously good lyrics around love, loss and friendship. The absolute standout track for me is No Reception, about the Indiefjord festival in Bjørke, which features Elizabeth Morris (Allo Darlin, Elva) on dual vocals, and features my new favourite lyric: “I smell like single-malt mosquito repellant.” Half Empty is already my album of 2020…

Not content with sending one gorgeous record, you’ll also be receiving the latest Jon Hopkins 12”, Luminous Spaces. Mr Hopkins is one of my favourite electronic artists at the moment, with his effortless way of creating anthemic, huge sounds that make you want to sway back and forth for hours. Luminous Spaces is no different, with Kelly Lee Owens lending her vocal prowess to create a beautiful, floaty piece of art that builds and builds to a hugely satisfying euphoric drop. This is an amazing single to get you ready for spring.
